Coastal Management Strategy: Groynes
Secondary Research:
Groynes can be defined as a wooden barrier, which is built at the right angle to the beach.
Advantages of Groynes:
The advantages of using groynes in Australia would be that it helps to prevent the movement of the beach material along the coast caused by the natural process long drift, this helps to bring back tourism to the beaches due to that not a lot of sand is being moved out into the sea, it also helps to give a boost to local economy shops as tourism is the only way they get their money and that coastal erosion can be slowed down.
Disadvantages of Groynes:
However, along with the advantages of this strategy, it does come along with disadvantages, which include it is expensive to build and maintain, beaches close by that are suffering from sediment transport are unable to get more sand which can later lead to erosion and property being damaged.

Primary Research:
North Gong Beach:
On the 27th August my family and I went to Wollongong beach and we have discovered that they have placed some groynes near the Port Kembla seawall. This helps top show that the strategy has been working really well due to that it does stop some of the waves energy.
