Coastal Management Strategy: Sea Walls
, Secondary Research:
Sea walls are a wall that is constructed in order to stop the sea from eroding in certain parts of land including on the coast. The seawall is usually constructed at a coastline and is usually a sloping concrete structure.
Advantages of seawalls:
There are different advantages that come with using a sea wall such as that it helps to slow down erosion, stops floods from happening, it helps to fix the boundary with the sea as well as it helps to solve the coastal erosion issue due to that it helps to slow down the erosion process as well as protecting building from being damaged as well. These benefits helps to show this strategy has been working as not a lot of building have been affected from coastal erosion when seawalls are being used.
Disadvantages of seawalls:
Even though seawalls have advantages it still does have disadvantages such as that it cost a lot of money for the Seawell to be built and maintained, over time the wall may erode away and that it does not look eye catching.

This is a secondary source that is showing a Seawall in action fighting against the strong waves and this is one types of sea wall where you are able to walk on it. There is one negative thing about this sea wall which is that it is really low and if the sea levels keep rising then it may go under water.

Primary research:
Cronulla Beach:
On 25th August, Year 10 Geography students wen to Cronulla Beach to discover not only how the natural and human process impacting coastal environments but also how the strategies have been working in order to slow the impacts down. By going on this trip we were able to see how the Seabee wall is actually created in order to stay up when big strong waves crash upon it.
I strongly believe that this strategy is beneficial due to that it has slowed down the erosion process and is worth the cost as buildings are being protected from being damaged.
North Gong Beach:
On 27th August, my family and I travelled to North Gong Beach to collect more primary data, we were able to see how the seawall was slowing down the erosion process just like the seabee wall at Cronulla Beach.
