Natural Process: Sea Level Rise
Secondary Research:
Sea level rise can be defined as a natural process in which the water gets warmer causes it to take up more space and this is often caused from ice bergs melting as well.
Impact on coastal environments:
When the sea levels rise it can be seen as a big impact on the coastal environment for a numerous of things such as that it leaves beaches in danger of being damaged, it sometimes cause the rate of erosion to speed up ,impacts on marine ecosystems e.g. reefs and it also increase salinity of rivers and coastal areas.
Impacts on coastal communities:
Some of the impacts that sea level rising has on coastal environments would be that damages to peoples homes which may not have insurance for leaving the owners at risk of no home.
Primary Research:
Cronulla Beach:
On Thursday 25th august Year 10 students went to Cronulla Beach to see how the Natural and Human Processes were impacting the Coastal environments in Australia and how well they are being managed with different strategies. We have discovered that if the sea water level rose anymore than it would be a problem, due to that on the far right hand side of the beach, the high tide already reached the rocks causing the buildings behind to be at risk than before.
North Gong Beach:
On Saturday 27th August, my family and I traveled to North Gong Beach in order to see how the sea level process is impacting the coastal environment in Australia. We have discovered that due to the sea level rising it has caused the erosion rate to quicken, causing one of the stairs leading down the beach to collapse out of place.

Name of video: NSAS's Earth Minute: Sea Level Rise
Publisher: NASA's Climate Change Date of upload: 26th August 2015 Description of video: This video has been created by NASA who have done an amazing job demonstrating how sea level rising not only effects the environment by also the people who live close by as well. This video also helps you to image the process done in order for sea levels to rise. |
