Secondary research:
Vegetation can be defined as plants that are covering an area of land in order to protect it.
Advantages of vegetation:
There are different advantages of this strategy created by Sutherland Shire Council and the local government due to that it would help to slow down the coastal erosion problem as keeps the sand dunes intact rather than falling into the sea. When the plants decay, it adds hummus that helps to give certain vegetation its nutrients.
Disadvantages of vegetation:
One of the problems associated with vegetation would be that when people put flora that is not native to certain coastal areas due to that it usually kills the native plants instead.
These above are secondary sources which helps to keep the sand dunes in tact rather than being damaged.
Primary research:
Cronulla beach:
On the 25th August, year 10 students when to Cronulla Beach to learn more about coastal management. We have discovered that the best strategy that were created was vegetation which helps to slow down the coastal erosion problems due to that the plants have their roots the whole way through the sand dunes. Some of the vegetation that we have seen are in the images below.
North Gong Beach:
On the 27th August 2016, my family and I went to North Gong Beach to collect more primary research in order to gain a better knowledge about the natural and human process impacting the coastal environment in Australia and to what extent they are being managed. We have discovered on one if the beaches that there was some erosion on some sand dunes and that vegetation were hold the sand dunes together.
